Xenia Garamvolgyi is a self-taught Hungarian artist.  Originally from Transylvania, she lived in Israel and Greece during her teenage years and, for the last 40 years, has been living in New York City.

As a child, Xenia was always drawing and dreamt of becoming an artist.  After moving to New York City, she found herself immersed in family life, working full time and raising her children, Alexander and Jennifer. There was little time for art.

Five years ago, Xenia rekindled her desire to follow her childhood dreams and turned back to art.  She began by experimenting with figure drawings in charcoal and pencil. She would eventually be inspired by impressionism and, captivated by the beauty of their paintings, began to paint in oil.

Although she had never painted before, Xenia knew she was capable of capturing on canvas anything that caught her eye or imagination.  Inspired by the culture, nature and people from her travels, Xenia’s style is simple, straight forward and striking.  She is in a constant state of exploration of different subject matters and experiments with human figures, landscapes, flowers, and portraits. She paints what she is.
